BTCCSquare news:

The UK's Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) revealed that cryptocurrency firms have likely under-reported breaches of financial sanctions since 2022. Most violations appear unintentional, stemming from direct or indirect exposure to sanctioned individuals through wallet addresses or obscured transaction origins.

Since January 2022, crypto-related cases accounted for over 7% of all suspected sanction breaches reported to OFSI. The regulator emphasized that crypto firms became legally obligated to report potential violations starting August 2022, as global sanctions against Russia intensified following its Ukraine invasion.

With 55 crypto companies currently registered under UK anti-money laundering rules, the report highlights ongoing challenges in enforcing traditional financial controls within decentralized ecosystems. Authorities globally continue stressing that existing sanction regimes apply equally to cryptocurrency transactions.
